Front Yard Gardens – Practical or Political?
I was checking out this article on CNN about people that grow their veggies in their front yards. These folks cite more sunlight, better growing conditions and even a political statement about agribusiness! I find it intriguing from a political angle. Many folks in my suburban neighborhood have gardens. My neighbor across the street had her patch in the front yard and I don’t think anyone really cared until her various shoots and leaves started creeping into another yard. I suppose if we had a homeowners association, they would have had a cow.
Personally, I don’t care where one puts their garden and I really don’t have much of a political agribusiness statement to make. I am happy to grow my own produce and save money – plus have fresher healthier food. I think if we all did to some degree, we’d be healthier as a nation and less dependent on what we can find at the store flash frozen and mainly tasteless… but I digress.
What do you guys think about a front yard garden for all to see vs a nice backyard patch?
