You may be thinking now about what you can do to spruce up your fall garden but aren’t too keen on the shrubs or bushes idea, given their maintenance. If this is the case, you may want to consider a wide range of fall blooming flowers that are beautiful choices for your autumn gardens. Many of these are perennial, and thus easy on the maintenance. This also means that your fall gardens will be rich with colors from one season to the next.
A discussion on fall flowers would be incomplete without mention of the ever lasting old garden standby the chrysanthemum. These are perhaps the gardener’s favorite given their vast variety, their types, and their huge range of colors. Early mums will bloom in the late summer, and late mums will bloom in early autumn. You will enjoy how the late mums will take their color right up to the first frost. These are hardy plants as well, and you will also enjoy how your garden has vibrant colors fall after fall. Spruce up your gardens with a few pumpkins or brightly colored ornaments to add a little extra spice.
Asters and goldenrod are the next favored for the fall gardener as they add a little extra height and dimension to your garden. Asters are taller than mums and you can play with the landscaping and dimensions in your garden. Asters also have the added advantage of huge color ranges as well and will blend in any garden. Goldenrods are also beautiful fall perennials, and if placed in a sheltered location will even give you some color during the mild spells of winter. You will also seem some lovely bursts of color from these hardy plants even in the early spring.
Don’t despair when the temperatures start to drop, you don’t need to put away your gloves just yet. Fall gardening can be just as rewarding as the spring, and with the huge selection of colors and perennials you have available to you, your fall garden may even rival your summer selections. Have fun!
