How to Make the Most of a Garden Shed
With Fall falling, and Winter on its way, today’s gardener is moving into storage mode and preparing for the drop in temperatures with the seasons to come. What this means is that you will be moving your tools and garden essentials and putting them away until next year. Most avid gardeners have a garden shed for this precise purpose, and if you are thinking of getting one, or don’t know how to use yours efficiently, these tips will help.
A garden shed is a must if you have a drastic change in seasons and live in Northern Hemisphere. Here you will keep all of your gardening must haves, tools, utensils for potting, seeds, soil, and any other necessities that you use every day in your garden. But are you really using your garden shed effectively? Here is how you can make your garden the best that it can be.
1. Use shelving units. These are ideal for pots and large items. It is best to use modular shelves as you may find yourself moving things from one place to the next. Ensure they are easy to reach, and can hold the amount of weight you have.
2. Install hooks in your shed. Here you can hang baskets, your gloves, and any handled tools. With hooks, you can also see exactly where everything is and won’t waste time looking when you need them.
3. Pick up a few Rubbermaid large containers for your soil and feeds so that rodents and pests do not get into them during the long winter months.
4. A plastic cart that has wheels is a good tool to have, and you want to keep this empty so that you can use it to move soil, tools, pots, and any other necessities in and out of your garden easily.
5. A tool box of sorts, or a large cabinet with many drawers and cubby spaces. This you will use for your smaller items. Again, Rubbermaid will come in handy as many of their cabinets and drawered containers are see through so you can see exactly what is in each drawer.
Naturally there are many other things you could think of to put into your garden shed to make it more efficient. But by starting off with these basics, your shed is already more organized than it was before.
