If you have been thinking about gardening, but aren’t sure where or how to start, you will want to pick up a few beginners tips for gardening. Many people want to garden desperately, but feel they just don’t have the ‘green thumb’ or creative genius to pick up that hoe. Pick it up my dear. While every hobby does have its aficionados, that does not mean you have to exclude yourself from the joys of gardening. And who knows, you may just become one of them in the meantime. Here are the basic steps to your beginner garden.
Plan plan plan. You need to plan ahead before you start planting and digging. You need to know how much space you have to start off with, if you will consider container gardening, and what in fact you want to garden at all. Start off your planning INSIDE with a rough sketch of your space, and a list of your ideas. Move them around a bit, and draw and doodle to your hearts content before you purchase a thing.
The basic elements of every garden that you will need to know are soil, plants, irrigation, and landscape. You will need to be on top of these things for you to have a garden everyone admires.
Soil is where your plants will get nutrients. Standard earth soil is generally not enough to feed your plants beautifully, you will want to use fertilizer and compost that adds additional nutrients to your garden.
Choose plants that will do well in your climate, and this will require some research online. Understand where you live, where you plants will go, and what kind of sun and rain they will receive there. Talk to your neighbors, they may already be experts on this.
The landscape is what your garden will add to the overall presentation of your yard. The theme and presentation will effect your landscape, so take careful consideration into what accessories you add or remove from your overall landscape. Without a properly planned landscape, your garden will only look like a messy bedroom.
Water, water, water. We save this for last because it is the most important, and the most often forgotten task. What method are you using to water your plants? Plan your garden accordingly if you are using hoses and sprinklers and need to plan around taps.
Once you have done your studying and your planning, you are ready to start!
